Phil grew up in Edmonton and wanted to be a pilot when he grew up. Karen grew up in Kenya and wanted to be a doctor or a wildlife researcher. Didn't exactly turn out that way at first. It's amazing how God opens doors, just not always the way we think. Phil worked for a pharmaceutical company and Karen stayed home with their daughters. When the kids were older, Phil became a pilot and Karen wrote books. Doors opened for both to teach at LeTourneau University; Phil taught aviation, and Karen taught biology. Phil began to focus on aviation photography. Karen’s interest in medicine led to a research project in wheelchair function in low-income countries. Now through the Assistive Technology Catalyst Project Phil and Karen work with mission hospitals to bring wheelchairs to children in low-income countries. Karen has been pursuing multi-image art based on macro photography.

Why INSCAPE?

Karen’s favourite poet is Gerard Manley Hopkins. His concept of "Inscape" says that looking deeply and carefully at nature shows something of the nature of God. The Windhover and Pied Beauty are two of her favourites.The way that God reveals himself in nature has given us so much joy. This website is all about sharing that joy. Romans 1:20 is one of their favorite verses. God's fingerprints are everywhere! The way he made the atmosphere even legislates beauty in aircraft design.
